Lesson Plan 2
Introduction/warmer (5 mins)
Welcome class, ask how their weeks have been.
The students play DON’T SAY A WORD.
Grammar (15 mins)
The students will watch the grammar video for be (you, we, they). (3 mins)
Write samples on the whiteboard, omitting the be verb and ask the students which verbs/conjugations are missing. (2 mins)
The students will watch the grammar video for be questions (you, we, they). (3 mins)
Write samples on the whiteboard, omitting the be questions, get students to fill gaps. (2 mins)
Split the students into pairs and ask them to ask yes/no questions (Rules etc included) to each other using be (you, we, they). (5 mins)
Pronunciation (5 mins)
Explain contraction rules for you’re, we’re, they’re on the whiteboard. Go over pronunciations. Get each student to provide an example sentence using one.
Vocabulary (10 mins)
Provide sheet with pictures on, get students to label family members (mother, father, daughter, son, grandmother, grandfather, husband, wife). Go over further vocabulary on board (give translations if necessary); aunt, uncle, cousin, sister-in-law/brother-in-law (use family tree from next ex to help if need diagram)
Family tree exercise, draw family tree on whiteboard, split in pairs, one student says a sentence and other guesses who it is. Eg. “My wife is Sandra and I have 2 daughters called Emily and Penny (James)” or “ I have 2 sisters, an aunt called Penny, an Uncle called Lucas and 2 cousins called Sarah and Lucy (Michael). Do examples with class if have extra time.
Reading (10 mins)
Read text about family post office business. Answer comprehension questions. Can word individually or in groups. Provide translation at end.
Listening (10 mins)
Listen to the audio of people describing family photos, match each on to the photo. Listen to the audio 3 times.
Speaking (15 mins)
Get students to talk about their own favourite family photo or a photo they have in their home. Give them 5 minutes to think/jot down ideas and get them to talk about them, go through as many students as you can in the 10 mins.
Writing (5 mins)
Write 4 sentences using the contractions you’re, we’re and they’re using vocabulary from lesson. Check for mistakes.
Close (5 mins)
Answer any questions. Explain next class’s topic and what resources students need to bring.
Total 80 mins + 10 mins to spare if encounter problems
